Whelan started his career at Manchester City, but made just one UEFA Cup appearance and, after a loan spell at Bury, played for Sheffield Wednesday, with whom he won promotion.
In January 2008, Whelan joined Stoke City for £500,000, helping them to promotion to the Premier League.
It took him a while to establish himself in Tony Pulis's first-team plans in the top flight, but by 2009 he had become a regular and went on to play in the 2011 FA Cup final.
Whelan continued to be a regular in the team under Pulis and kept his place under Mark Hughes.
Meticulously handcrafted to achieve the perfect likeness of the players, SoccerStarz are pocket miniatures of real-world stars.
