Donald "Don" Lockwood is an actor and the main protagonist of Singin' in the Rain.

As a child, his parents gave him a motto: “Dignity; always dignity" and tried to live by this motto all his life.

As a child, he went to step school, where he met Cosmo Brown, his stage partner, and they occasionally went to the movies together.

Don and Cosmo then became stage performers singing and playing the violin, but it was quite unpopular with the public. He and Cosmo liked the job anyway.
