When a huge mining vessel, the USG Ishimura, comes into contact with a mysterious alien artifact in a distant star system, its communications with Earth are mysteriously interrupted.

Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura ship's communications network, but upon arrival finds a living nightmare.
