Although he is a robot, Astro was designed to be indistinguishable from a human being, as he was designed to look like Tobio Tenma.
He was given many of the same distinguishing attributes he has large innocent eyes, black and spiky hair and fair skin.
In official illustrations it is occasionally depicted as having doll-like segments on its limbs.
Astro was created with what appear to be black athletic shorts and a gray or metallic green belt. He usually wears red knee-high boots, although in some appearances he can be seen wearing a pair of small, laceless shoes instead.
