This game brilliantly combines the free-roaming gameplay of the 3D Mario titles with the mechanics of the 2D side-scrolling platform games in the series.

Choose from four playable characters, each with unique characteristics and abilities to allow for variety in gameplay.



Characteristics:

- Mario has an average running speed and jump height, Luigi jumps higher, Peach can jump and float through the air for a short time, and Toad runs the fastest - different characters for different players.
- Also, players can now explore the same level simultaneously and share an extra life pool!
- A new item called the Catsuit - a very cute outfit that allows players to run on all fours, pounce on enemies, attack in the air, or use their claws to sneak up on walls and goalposts.
- The game also features functionality with the Wii U GamePad, allowing players to rub the touchscreen to reveal blocks or hidden objects, as well as prevent enemies from helping the player and advancing through levels.
