FuRyu's upcoming title The Legend of Legacy might not be on your radar, but the moment you hear who's working on it, your interest should be piqued.
This incarnation of Bravely Default is in the very capable hands of experienced Square Enix and Level5 legends like Kyoji Koizumi (SaGa) and Masato Kato (Chrono Trigger) to name a few.
Set on the Isle of Avalon The Legend of Legacy is designed to facilitate the player's own exploration! The map is actually available from the start of the game, allowing you to discover new maps that will allow you to venture into all new areas.
Since there is no set story path that players must follow, you will be free to explore the island's many secrets.
Characteristics:
- Exploration is further encouraged with the title's mapping system. As players roam the island, the map at the bottom of the screen will fill in.
- This information can then be used as a kind of currency in Initium City, unlocking various perks and interactions with other characters.
- The Legend of Legacy is unique in that game designer Kyoji Koizumi's goal was to have no quests.
- Instead, players are given a single main goal to figure out and work towards in whatever way they see fit as they explore Avalon and the various ruins found within.
- Players will be able to choose their main hero from a selection of seven different adventurers, each with a unique personality and weapon type, as well as three heroes to add to their party.
- You can equip any of the available weapon types (sword, greatsword, axe, spear, staff, staff, bow and arrows and shield) to any character via the menu screen. Intium City will serve as a hub where players can make changes to their party.
- The core combat of The Legend of Legacy will be very familiar to any RPG fan - enemies will appear prominently on dungeon maps as players advance through them, and colliding with them triggers turn-based encounters.
- However, the title's unique mechanics, Magic and Spirit, begin to paint a very interesting and moderately complex picture.
- Players can form "contracts" or connections with the spirits of the various elements - water (blue), wind (green), fire (red) and darkness (purple) - which in turn will unlock additional abilities you can use called Spirit Arts.
- The balance of power between the four elements will change throughout your battles as Spirit Arts are used by you and the opposition.
- Character formation (attack, guard, support) is incredibly important in combat, and the development team has made it easy to pre-set certain formations with the help of the Roll Shuffle system.
- Players can create various formations before battle and quickly apply them when the situation calls for it.
- Finally, The Legend of Legacy has a trading system that will also work with StreetPass.
- Players will be able to send a ship to trade with various other cities, which will bring back various loot, including armor and recovery items.
- Illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi (SaGa series), renowned composer Masashi Hamauzu (SaGa, Final Fantasy XIII), screenwriter Masato Kato (Chrono Trigger), game designer Kyoji Koizumi (SaGa series) and Masataka Matsuura (999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors) come together to create this unique experience.
- Each character in The Legend of Legacy has their own motivation for exploring Avalon and their own individual conclusion to solving the story. Play as each character to see them all.
- Managing formations to train specific combat roles instead of fixed classes adds another level of challenge for combat enthusiasts.
- Based on user feedback following the Japanese release, several gameplay adjustments have been made to improve the game.
